Prevent Automatic BitLocker Encryption for Devices

Tip explains how you can disable automatic BitLocker encryption for devices.

Windows 8.1 introduces enabling BitLocker encyption for devices being added to the system. You might want to disable this feature for several reasons. To disable this feature, create following regsitry on the Windows 8.1 PC:

  • Reg Entry: PreventDeviceEncrption
  • Reg Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\BitLocker
  • Reg Type: DWORD
  • Reg Value: 1
